THEFT THWARTED

a woman attempted to cash a stolen $2,200 check at the chase bank at 2030 broadway and west 70th street. police said that on jan. 23 at 8:30 a.m., the manager notified the person who supposedly wrote the check. the 72-year-old woman told the manager she did not recognize the woman based on the description and did not write a check for that amount. the manager informed the potential thief, and she left the bank.
