Pointed ExchangeOne shoplifter had a sweet tooth and a sharp needle. At 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, an unknown individual entered a bodega at 111 John St. and began taking items of merchandise before attempting to leave the store without paying. A 36-year-old male employee approached the shoplifter, who then displayed a needle, saying “Get back, or I’ll kill you!” The shoplifter then exited through a side door and fled in an unknown direction. The items stolen were ten cartons of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream valued at $64.

Lap TrapSubway riders, don’t let other passengers sit in your lap. At 10:10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, a 32-year-old man was riding a southbound 2 train leaving from the 14th Street station when he was approached by an unknown man, who sat on his lap. The man asked the 32-year-old several times, “What is your name?” and ”How are you doing?” The 32-year-old replied, “I’m fine” before asking the other man to leave him alone. He walked to the next car, and later, when he was making a report at the Sterling Street station, discovered that his wallet had been taken during the confrontation on the train.

Cause for AlarmA local boutique may want to install a better alarm system. At 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, a female witness flagged down a police sergeant on patrol and informed the officer that the glass door of the Moncler store at 106 Spring St. was shattered. Later, a reporter at the boutique said that jackets from a coat rack next to the front door had been taken. Apparently, the store alarm never sounded, as there was no sensor on the door’s glass. All items of merchandise stolen were fashions by Craig Green, some running close to $2,000, making a total stolen of $8,095.

Photographer RobbedA young photographer might need an assistant to keep an eye on his gear. At 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, a 30-year-old man was standing at the northwest corner of Sullivan and Spring Streets when he placed his camera bag on the ground while he set up his camera’s tripod. When he turned around to get his bag at 6:30 p.m. he discovered it was gone. The items stolen included a 15-inch MacBook Pro laptop valued at $2,000, a Nikon camera body worth $1,500, a Leica camera body priced at $1,500, a Rolleiflex camera body selling for $1,200, a Summicron 90 f28 Leica lens tagged at $800, two Nissin MG8000 flashes costing $800 and a Think Tank camera bag worth $399, making a total stolen of $8,799.

LenonoA thief scooped up a laptop from a pop-up shop. At 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, an unknown man entered the Chanel pop-up store at 120 Wooster St. and took a laptop off the countertop. The thief had entered through the Wooster Street entrance; it was unknown if the door had been locked. The stolen laptop was a Lenovo ThinkPad valued at $3,000.
