Muggers on the LooseA gang of violent muggers eluded police recently. At 2:05 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, a 43-year-old Brooklyn man was leaving work when he was approached in front of 197 Spring St. by four men, all around 20 years old, who hit him in the face multiple times and then took his cellphone. The victim followed the quartet, who ran into the Spring Street train station. Inside, the victim activated a police alarm, and the four immediately left the station. The victim pursued them southbound on Thompson Street but lost sight of them at 395 Canal Street. At that point two of the men fled eastbound on Canal while the other two went inside 2 Wooster St. Police soon arrived and secured the building, conducting a thorough search but could not find them.

Poor RelationOne young man might have cause to regard a relative as a “dissing” cousin. At 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, a 19-year-old man was approached by his 23-year-old male cousin in front of 11 Mercer St. The cousin hit him over the head with the victim’s skateboard before fleeing with the skateboard and the victim’s laptop. Terik Hunt was arrested on August 2 and charged with robbery. The items stolen included an Apple MacBook Pro valued at $2,000 plus the skateboard, for which no value was given.

Bank Hold-UpPolice continue to investigate a local bank robbery. At 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, a man entered the TD bank at 166 Chambers St., approached a teller’s box, and passed a note stating, “I have a weapon; give me the money.” The robber also said, “Don’t give me any twenties!” The man managed to get away with $500 and was last seen fleeing eastbound on Chambers. Police searched the neighborhood but couldn’t find him.

Hotchie Motchie VersaceWith the retail price of sneakers approaching four figures, a pair of shoplifters apparently couldn’t resist the lure. At 6:25 p.m. on Friday, August 3, two individuals went into the Versace store at 160 Mercer St. and examined multiple items of clothing. They then grabbed some merchandise without paying and fled the store, breaking a glass fixture on their way out. The merchandise included five pairs of sneakers with a total value of $4,265.

Looted and ScootedYet another parked scooter scooted away from its owner recently. At 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, a 28-year-old man parked his white 2016 Yamaha Zuma 125 in front of 8 Spruce St. The two-wheeler was missing when he returned at about four hours later. A search of the neighborhood proved fruitless. The stolen scooter is valued at $3,600.
