Saul and Stanley Zabar, the owners of the Zabar's specialty food store on the Upper West Side, were honored by the Horace Mann School on Nov. 3. The brothers received the school's Alumni Council Award for Distinguished Achievement for their success as business owners and also for their service to the community. Both brothers are Horace Mann alumni. Saul graduated in 1946 and Stanley in 1949. "The Zabars are generous supporters of many charities, but especially noteworthy tonight is their support of schools. Saul and Carole Zabar endowed the Saul and Carole Zabar Nursery School at the Manhattan JCC," said Justin Lerer, president of the Horace Mann Alumni Council. "Stanley serves on the Board of the Careers Through Culinary Arts Program, which promotes and provides career opportunities in the culinary field for underprivileged youth."
