Yassky Calls For Irish Parking Holiday

Though it won't affect you this year, Brooklyn City Councilman David Yassky is urging the City to do the right thing in the future and add St. Patrick's Day to the Department of Transportation's alternate side of the street parking calendar.   Yassky notes that more than two million people attend the parade annually, and urged the City to give the Irish and the Irish-at-heart a one day break from the daily parking shenanigans that ASP regulations force upon City residents.   "St. Patrick's Day is a special day that is important to many New Yorkers—a day many people set aside as a holiday to celebrate their heritage. We should respect the widely held tradition of St. Patrick's Day and, while we're at it, give New Yorkers a little break from playing 'musical cars,'" said Yassky.   Past figures indicate that the City loses $1 million each day ASP regulations are suspended, so whether the City will take money out of their pocket to give people a break for one day is up in the air. And given the amount of revelry that we see on St. Patrick's Day, wouldn't it make more sense to suspend those rules the day after? Maybe let the City sleep in a bit?
