The New York Mets might as well be Paul McCartney because they’re getting better, better, better—better all the time. The Blue and Orange won for the ninth time in 10 games last night, [downing the Atlanta Braves 3-2 ]to continue their late-season surge.

David Wright hit a two-run home run in the sixth, his 28th of the season, to increase the Mets’ lead to 3-0, and starter Oliver Perez recorded seven strikeouts in seven strong innings to lead New York to another victory. Moises Alou also extended his hitting streak to 15 games with his first triple this season, and this potentially potent lineup finally seems to have awoken. Meanwhile, Perez’s start continued a string of solid outings from New York’s starting pitchers, which seem to be hitting their peak at the right time. “It’s fun to just sit back and see the swagger that we have,” Wright said, following the triumph. “That’s something that I think we've been missing a little bit this year, and we have that right now.”

The win preserved the Mets’ [six-game lead] in the NL East standings, since Philadelphia also won yesterday. New York also got some good news this morning, when ace Tom Glavine [expressed interest in returning next season](http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3013899), his 22nd in the major leagues. “I’m having as much fun as I’ve had in a long time, and that’s a big factor for me,” he said. “It’s a fun team to come to the ballpark with every day. All the factors are there [to come back].” Luckily, the Mets have an extra supply of Ginkgo Biloba, so the 127-year-old Glavine should be able to make it through one more year.
