Who Needs the Mystery Jets?

One of England’s hottest young bands, Mystery Jets had been scheduled to headline at the Bowery Ballroom on Saturday night, but at the last minute the band was forced to cancel due to VISA problems. Rather than cancel the entire show, openers White Rabbits were bumped up to the headline spot with fellow local faves Vampire Weekend, and The Dansettes and Aeroplane Pageant were added to the bill. Admission was also reduced. Even with the strong bill of local favorites and the reduced admission price, I arrived to Bowery Ballroom expecting a smaller crowd, but to my surprise, the place was pretty full with people. All four bands really stepped it up, but it was all about Vampire Weekend and White Rabbits. These are two bands you will be hearing a lot about over the next few months. Fans were really into Vampire Weekend’s catchy pop sounds, demanding for more when the band finished their set. White Rabbits finished it all off, playing more like veteran headliners than the young band that they are, blowing away the audience with songs from their excellent debut album Fort Nightly, and throwing in a couple covers.
