When Sports And Politics Collide

Here we have two good examples of my one passion, politics, colliding with another passion, the NFL.

First, Hot Air has a [video up] of a Mike Ditka appearance on ESPN's Pardon The Interruption, where he alerts the viewing audience that if he had taken the Republican line in Illinois' 2004 Senate race "no one would've ever heard of [Barack] Obama." Ditka flirted with the idea of a run after other Republicans [fell apart](http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/06/22/ryan.divorce/), and polls indicated he could have won. Also, Denver Bronco great and hall-of-famer John Elway has made it official: [he will not run for Colorado's open Senate seat in 2008].
