The new collection of watches from Paul Frank aren’t exactly what you’d expect from the candy-colored arbiter of cartoony cuteness. True, they are brightly lit and boldly shaped, and the influence of bathroom scales, odometers and appliance ads gives it the youthful buoyancy for which he’s known, but this time around, he’s included ’50s retro accents, walnut detailing and sunray dialing, which give everything a more mature, sophisticated look. Then, of course, there’s his modern take on everyone’s favorite childhood accessory, the calculator watch, for those who are apparently still indulging their inner child.
