Viguerie Unimpressed With Rudy

Conservative icon and author [Richard Viguerie] has some harsh words for Rudy Giuliani following last night's Republican debate. Viguerie is so distressed with the possibility of Republicans nominating Giuliani for president that he would back a third-party, conservative option in the general election if the right opportunity presented itself.

"Rudy Giuliani's insistence that America is doing well with a two-party system shows that he still doesn't grasp how discouraged, disheartened, and disillusioned the GOP's conservative base is with the Republican

    Leadership,” said Viguerie.

He continued, "Conservatives are tired of being treated like a mistress. After being chased, deceived, used, abused, and betrayed by Republican leaders for 47 years, many conservatives are ready to back a principled conservative third-party candidate and let the big-government Republicans carry their own Presidential nominee this time around. We could also sit out the 2008 presidential race and focus our resources on the many Congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative races where our support can make a real difference. Or we could follow the late Sen. Barry Goldwater's advice in 1960 and take over the Party.

    "

Viguerie added, "Mayor Giuliani and the Republican leadership would be wise to give us a reason to stay now."
