This fall, NYC teased its transgender residents with talk of relaxing the ever so strict [birth certificate] rules, which only reflect a change in one’s gender upon sex reassignment surgery. But alas, no such luck. Then things were looking up again for the transgender community when 20-year-old transgender [Alyssa Rodriguez](http://nypress.com/blogx/display_blog.cfm?bid=88000566) won a lawsuit against the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) after the New York juvy facility where she was living refused to supply her with prescriptive hormone medication.

Now, “All My Children,” shot on the third floor of an ABC compound on Manhattan's West Side, will be pursuing a plot involving [a man who believes he’s actually a woman], and the storyline will follow Zoe's struggle to fully adjust to life as the opposite sex. This is a first for daytime drama, and months of research has gone into the development of the character, including meetings with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Perhaps life will imitate art as transgender livin’ and lovin’ finds more of a place in the public eye. At the very least, it should make for some riveting daytime TV.
