Cemusa released the first toilet stats to the [Times today]. These probably won't inspire numbers wonks like Compstat or Sabermetrics, but they're oddly fascinating nonetheless. 443 total urinated, defecated, got high or simply enjoyed a quiet moment alone during the first five days of operation. This earned the Spain-based toilet company Cemusa $110 and change. And the initial 443 were responsible for more than 7,500 gallons of water. "Tepid" and "suspicious" may be used to describe the city's reaction, but as Douglas Lasdon told the Times, "I feel with more confidence than the presidential pollsters that these will be very popular and that people will use them in large numbers." Let's not let him down...
