Tiki Torches Coughlin

Tiki Barber was placed on Sunday Night Football broadcasts to add color commentary to NFL games, but even before the season has begun, Tiki has become the show. Several weeks after [ripping ex-teammate and Giants quarterback Eli Manning] on national television, Barber (pictured) has attacked New York head coach Tom Coughlin—this time in print.

In excerpts form his new book, Tiki: My Life in the Game and Beyond, Barber [blames Coughlin for his retirement]. “If Tom Coughlin had not remained as head coach of the Giants, I might still be in a Giants uniform,” he writes. “[Coughlin] robbed me of what had been one of the most important things I had in my life, which was the joy I felt playing football. I had lost that. He had taken it away.”

Ouch. Barber also writes that he was shorted about $10 million in his career by the Giants, who underpaid him compared with other top running backs. Talk about bitter. If this is what Barber’s spewing after just several weeks as a member of the media, I’m scared to find out what he’ll say after he’s settled into his new profession and gotten comfortable.
