Teens Collared For Park Crimes

Two teen muggers swiped the purse of a 41-year-old woman on the northwest corner of Riverside Drive and West 83rd Street. Police said that May 13 at 5:20 p.m., the woman and her children were at a nearby playground. Her husband chased the two 16-year-old boys and got the purse back. The teens also had two Razor scooters they had taken from toddlers at the playground. Police arrested the duo and charged them with grand larceny.

Violent Assault at Duane Reade

A 24-year-old man was arrested after trying to swipe merchandise from a Duane Reade and attacking a security guard. Police said that April 16, Mark Krowiak tried to steal $57 worth of cosmetics and cough medicine from the Duane Reade at 1889 Broadway and West 63rd Street. The store detective stopped Krowiak, but he took out a glass bottle and smashed it over the 33-year-old detective’s head. The thief continued to fight with the store detective and another employee, police said. Krowiak was arrested and charged with robbery.

Truck Robber Busted

A man was arrested on Aug. 21 when he tried to steal cargo from a truck making a delivery to 380 Amsterdam Ave., near West 79th Street. A police officer saw Douglas Davis, 58, open the commercial truck’s cargo door and attempt to steal 12 cases of assorted juices and teas. Davis was charged with burglary.

COSMETICS HEIST

William Acevedo was arrested on Nov. 20 for attempting to steal $617.53 in cosmetics from the Duane Reade at 976 Amsterdam Ave., between West 108th and 109th streets. Police said that at around 3:30 p.m. that day, a 32-year-old employee tried to detain Acevedo after he was spotted attempting to snatch the merchandise. In a getaway attempt and scuffle, Acevedo knocked over two displays, and the employee received a cut on his right middle finger.
