Start Your Engines for 54/10 Music Marathon at Ars Nova

The third annual 54/10 Music Marathon at Ars Nova continues its mission to excavate “the best music you haven’t heard yet.”

 

The Hell’s Kitchen hotspot may be best known as a midtown theatrical venue, but it also supports emerging performers in the worlds of comedy and music. In typical fashion for the eclectic yet fun locale, the 2012 festival promises everything from bawdy punk rock to danceable indie-pop to bluegrass, enhanced by aerial choreography.

 

Based on its track record, the artists featured won’t likely be a secret for long. Past acts have included Clydesdale Erotic, Justin Levine, Langhorne Slim, Semi Precious Weapons and The Spring Standards. The first-ever 54/10 Music Marathon (named for the cross streets at which the venue resides) included performances by Jay Brannan, The Woes, The Defibulators and Cynthia Hopkins.

 

With an emphasis on artistic risk-taking and collaboration, Ars Nova fosters community among a new generation of emerging artists while bringing high-quality affordable live entertainment to young audiences who frequent the venue. The tickets are cheap ($5 in advance, $10 online and $15 at the door and the bar serves happy hour specials from 7:30 – 8:30 (Two Boots Pizza, Brooklyn Brewery, and Buffalo Trace Whiskey are the sponsors).

 

54/10 has rapidly turned out to be one of the city’s can’t miss summer musical events. Check out the list of artists scheduled for the fest – which runs from August 1 to 11 – below:
