visitors at the american museum of natural history view an extremely rare textile woven from gold-colored silk thread produced by more than one million golden orb spiders from madagascar. on view in the museum's grand gallery, this contemporary textile, measuring 11-by-4-feet, took four years to make using a painstaking technique developed more than 100 years ago.
