Save Domino!

The never-ending attack of the condos is now threatening the life of another historic building in Brooklyn, The Domino Sugar Refinery. Thankfully, the [Waterfront Preservation Alliance] (waterfrontalliance.org) has stepped up once again, raising awareness of the issue and bringing a petition to life. With over 1,500 names to date, the WPA continued their fight holding a benefit concert/rally on Sunday at Grand Ferry Park in Williamsburg. Despite the rain, the event remained a success, and was plenty entertaining, with memorable outdoor performances by The Black Tie Party,  the Hungry Marching Band, Vic Thrill & the Saturn Missile,Cheeseburger,  and The Wau Wau Sisters. After the Wau Wau Sisters displayed their acrobatic musical abilities, the crowd moved on to the Ale House, where indie rockers Nada Surf put on a beautiful, intimate acoustic performance filled with their finest pop gems, and highlighted by the upbeat "The Blankest Year" which the whole place joined in on the chorus, gleefully  singing "Fuck It". Lead singer Matthew Caws laughed in the middle of it all when one guest consistently held up her baby on cue with the chorus. Between the intimate nature of the performance, the beautiful songs, and the band and crowd's overall enjoyment of the whole thing, the little concert, which was filled with its imperfections, was perfect. The Waterfront Preservation Alliance reports 850+ signatures from the day, which should be viewed a major success. But they will not stop until the historic Domino Refinery is designated as a landmark. If you'd like to join in on the fight,  you can sign the petition [here](http://www.petitiononline.com/dominowb/petition.html).
