Rivera: Enough Already

Not only does Assemblyman Jose Rivera (pictured) think that the Republican-controlled State Senate should stay away from investigation the ongoing "[Brunogate]" scandal and Governor Eliot Spitzer's involvement, he thinks that Spitzer shouldn't have even bothered apologizing.

Upstate Republican George Winner [has called on Spitzer] to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the matter, and he wants that prosecutor to be Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. Rivera thinks that this is a transparent attempt by Republicans to pit the State's top two Democrats against one another, and that the State Ethics Commission, which has launched a preliminary investigation, should have the last word.

"I see no need for independent prosecutor status to be granted to the attorney general other than a Republican attempt to retaliate against Gov. Spitzer," said Rivera, who also serves as the head of the Bronx Democratic Party. "In my opinion, there was no need for the Governor to have apologized. However, he has done so to Sen. Bruno and to the people of the State of New York."
