'Right' On Adolfo

Perhaps the most interesting, non-environmental comment made at this morning's green forum in The Bronx was a telling joke made by Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr., who is a contender to replace Mayor Bloomberg in 2009.

While it is generally assumed that Carrion would seek to occupy the Latino slice of the 2009 electoral pie some Bronx watchers have quietly confirmed to me over the past weeks and months that Carrion also feels he can run as the moderate in the race since his agenda as borough president has not really had any partisan tilt, and certainly no liberal tilt. They also feel that Carrion will become the obvious candidate of the center once he is compared to other candidates with more liberal voting records in their respective legislatures, specifically Rep. Anthony Weiner and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

So when Carrion and Greenpeace co-founder Dr. Patrick Moore were exchanging pleasantries at the end of the forum the two mentioned that they should get together again, joking about the possible creation of a Carrion/Moore television show. Moore noted that the two could switch their names from first to last for each episode, and that next time Carrion could sit on the left side of the room to mix things up.

"Sometimes I'm more comfortable on the right," joked Carrion, who got a pretty good laugh from the media and assorted others who remained in the room.
