    a man was arrested after trying to bilk hsbc bank out of thousands of dollars. police said that barry rothbaum, 53, was notified feb. 18 that his account was overdrawn by $7,426.27. he was then accused of trying to deposit checks from the overdrawn account to the same account in an attempt to withdraw an additional $4,972.46. police said that at 11 a.m., march 19, he tried to reactivate the account at the hsbc bank branch, at 2025 broadway and west 70th street, so he could withdraw money again. he was arrested and accused of taking $12,398.
