Radical Firefighters

About two weeks ago, the FDNY began enforcing an existing rule prohibiting pictures, posters, news articles or anything that be deemed “offensive or controversial” from be posted in department buildings. Officials were forced to scrape the personal items off locker doors, explained Steve Cassidy, president of the union, the Uniformed Firefighters Association, who says the policy results in firefighters being treated like children. Items to be removed could included photos of loved ones or of fellow firefighters who died on 9/11. But the AP reports the beginnings of a big F-U phenomenon. Apparently, [10,000 American flag decals were distributed to our firefighters] today so that they rebel by sticking them to their lockers. Cassidy said the union has sent a letter to Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta requesting that he change the regulations and compromise on what a firefighter can and cannot post on his or her locker.
