A couple robbed a subway rider of her purse at gunpoint. At 2:45 PM on Sunday, August 18, a 27-year-old woman returning home from a visit to the Natural History Museum was approached by a 49-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman on the northbound platform of the B/C trains at West 81st Street and Central Park West. The man displayed a black firearm to the victim and demanded her purse. She handed her purse to him, and both he and his female accomplice fled on foot, exiting the train station heading eastbound into Central Park. Park police searched the area but were unable to locate the couple. The victim's cell phone was tracked down to East 77th Street and Lexington Avenue. There the Central Park police entered the subway, and the victim was able to identify the robbers at the scene. The firearm and the original clothing worn during the robbery were found inside the man's black backpack. The couple was arrested and charged with robbery.
