Pool Party Season Has Begun

Last year. JellyNYC’s “Pool Parties” at Brooklyn’s McCarren Pool were the thing to do every Sunday. Yesterday marked the beginning of this year’s pool season, with Superchunk totally rocking the place with their ‘90s Chapel Hill sound. Hundreds of 20-something hipsters were joined by old fans, neighborhood residents, and little children for a day full of loud music, flying dodgeballs, Slip’n Slide, and large sunglasses. Perfect weather helped to make it one incredibly enjoyable day, on par with any of last year’s memorable Pool Parties. NYC locals Oakley Hall and +/- took the stage earlier in the day, and both did a great job in creating a soundtrack for all of the activities going on in the huge abandoned pool.  Many kids and adults cool by hitting the Slip’n Slide. Dodgeball, again this year, was incredibly entertaining. There’s something really enjoyable about watching rubber balls hit people so hard that it knocks them to the ground.

As good as yesterday’s Pool Party was, there’s a whole lot to look forward with great bands like TV On The Radio, Blonde Redhead, and Ted Leo playing these free concerts every Sunday. Next Sunday Man Man, Illinois, and Dengue Fever will be playing. Check out [Jelly NYC’s Pool Party] website for more to see the full schedule.
