Parents who want to run for a spot on their local Community Education Council (CEC) can do so until March 19. Candidates can fill out an application questionnaire at powertotheparents.org.
In February, the Department of Education unrolled a new selection process for public school parents interested in running for the CEC, a group that represents community and parental interests. Previously, leaders of the Parent Teacher Association or the Parents Association chose the CEC members; in this new process, those groups will have to consider the results of a straw election open to all public school parents.
