[Sol LeWitt], the artist known for his iconic geometric forms and basic, minimalist sculptures, [died yesterday in New York](http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/09/arts/design/09lewitt.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&th&emc=th) at the age of 78.  LeWitt's name is usually uttered in the same breath as the biggies like Donald Judd and Rauschenberg since he helped define Conceptualism and Minimalism in the postwar era. His work was never a big people pleaser, since Conceptual art is more concerned with the idea or "concept" (get it) than traditional aesthetic values. The cause of LeWitt's death was cancer, according to longtime associate Susanna Singer. Rest in peace, man of the many boxes.
