Old Lady Hearts NY

You know, when you stop and look for it, do-gooders actually are all around us. Marguerite Drucker, an 84-year-old housewife who left New York several years ago, has sent a [$7,000 cashier’s check to the city she loves]. The accompanying note, sent to the comptroller’s office, explained that the money was for the city’s poor. Drucker and her husband raised their children in Queens before moving away. As explanation for her philanthropic ways, Drucker wrote, "The city has been very good to me." The money will be deposited into the city’s general fund, which pays for myriad services, including helping the poor.
