NY Favors Public Defender Overhaul

    A Zogby poll released this morning finds that 73% of all state residents feel that New York's public defender system should be reworked to guarantee those accused of a crime receive competent legal representation, regardless of their income level and location.

    The poll also finds that 58% of those polled would support the creation of an independent state agency to administer the public defender system and that 62% of state residents feel the cost of the public defender should match the cost of the prosecution for any particular case.
