New York International Fringe Festival: Choose Your Own Play

| 11 Nov 2014 | 02:05

The phone is ringing, the door is banging, which do you choose to respond to first?  In Timmy Wood and Greg Hundermer’s Choose Your Own Play, you decided for You, the main character of the show.  You are also pretty cute, very tall, and don’t seem that smart when the gunman comes to kill your best friend or when hiding in the library.  The energetic play can go numerous ways, all choices picked on cue of a ringing bell while the MC judges which decision got the loudest cheers (totally unfair when faced with a row of loud men). The play happens three times and the seven performers have a bevy of surprising and slapstick style personas.  While it was fun to have the outcome of the play in your hands, I sensed an obvious problem–if we are picking certain things, it would go to reason other crowds would choose a similar direction.  But who knows, supposedly there are 80 different endings, like when You is shot, or when You falls in love, or, my favorite, when You reenacts the long lost episode of [Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles].

Additional showtimes are Aug. 13 at 3:15, Aug. 15 at 9:30, Aug. 18 at 5:15, Aug. 21 at 9:30. Cultural and Educational Center-Milagro, 107 Suffolk St. (btwn. Rivington and Delancey Streets). $15.
