New York and Jersey To Share

Us proud New Yorkers often talk smack about Jersey residents, but we better get ready to share with them. New York’s Homeland Security funding will soon be split with New Jersey’s. Under a new program, over [$700 million in grants will be divided amongst urban areas depending on how at risk they are for terrorist attacks]. But New York City and New Jersey will be counted as one when it comes to risk assessment, so don’t think of drawing a line down the middle like you did with your kid brother in your childhood room. Last year, the city’s federal funding was cut by 40 percent when money was given to Nebraska and Kentucky, amongst others. Yeah, like they’re gonna be attacked (haughty grunt here). So New York lawmakers have been pushing to change the policy so that allotment is done according to risk.
