Neïmo Brings Their Rock Swagger To Luna Lounge

Sometimes, what it takes to be a successful rock band is confidence. The stage can be a scary place for young musicians, and even some veterans need a few drinks before confronting a room full of people.  French quartet, Neïmo, possesses the type of cocky swagger that has them on a path towards fame.

Taking the stage at Brooklyn’s Luna Lounge, the four members had the look of rock stars—tight pants, black leather jackets, and long, shaggy hair. While the look is generic, it works to convey a certain image, which is exactly what they were looking for. More interestingly, the band had brought their own lighting, which easily made watching them more pleasing than the usual dimly lit indie rockers on stage. With the visual aspects of their performance taken care of, the band had a sound that matched it perfectly. Neïmo instantly had the crowd sold on their The Killers-meet-Jet synths and riffs. Although pretty formulaic, the songs had enough of a hook to make them fully enjoyable.

The weirdest moment of the set came when the band (playing as the 2nd of 4 bands), returned to the stage for an encore. Apparently the band was shooting a video, and played 2 of their best songs for a second time. At the time, it just seemed like a really cocky move, by a band that will most likely make a name for themselves in 2008.

Neïmo will continue their attempt at New York takeover by playing Pianos this Wednesday night, The Annex on Saturday (Dec. 22nd), and Midway on Dec. 29th.
