NADLER: MORE STIMULUS

After weeks of tough negotiations, President Barack Obama signed the stimulus bill into law on Feb. 17 in Denver, Colo. But liberal lawmakers, including Rep. Jerrold Nadler, have expressed concern that the final package, which has a $787 billion price tag, will only slow down the recession instead of reverse it.
“I am very concerned that, as big of a shot in the arm to the economy as this bill is, it is not nearly big enough to stop the catastrophic economic decline we’re facing,” Nadler said in a statement.
Around $100 billion was cut from the stimulus bill after negotiations with Republicans in Congress. Nadler’s amendment to add $3 billion to transportation projects, pushing the total sum of transportation money to $12 billion, was cut from the final stimulus bill after House and Senate negotiations. The total amount of mass transit money will be $8.4 billion.
