Monday, July 2: Day Of Outrage

| 11 Nov 2014 | 01:38

Activists from various organizations are scheduled to meet in Brooklyn tonight to plan a “[day of outrage]” protest, an event which in the past has shut down subways, disrupted traffic and caused a general ruckus in the city, according to The New York Sun. Inspired by the [shooting of Sean Bell](http://www.newyorkpress.com/blogx/display_blog.cfm?bid=30781952) and other police violence, the protest is intended to draw attention to police brutality, although no date or place has been reported. This is not the first “day of outrage” in Bell’s name. In December 2006, several hundred people [demonstrated near Wall Street](http://wcbstv.com/local/local_story_355061244.html), carrying signs reading, “Shut Wall Street down” and “Wall Street finances police state.”

“We’ve got to come together and do something,” insisted [Charles Barron], a former Black Panther and a current Brooklyn Council member. “These police are out of control,” he said. “You have got to pay attention to us. You have got to stop killing us.” And what better way to gain attention than a little civil disobedience of their own?
