With Mother"s Day around the corner, State Sen. Liz Krueger is reminding women to take advantage of various free mammogram screenings throughout the neighborhood.Â Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death for woman, killing more than 41,000 women each year.
Project Renewal and the American Italian Cancer Foundation offer mobile mammogram services, with free screenings for women older than 40 who have not received a screening in the past 12 months. Appointments are necessary; contact each organization for additional information.
The American Italian Cancer Foundation (800-453-8378, x1) is offering screenings Monday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lenox Hill Neighborhood Senior Center, 343 E. 70th St.; and Monday, May 24 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at P.S. 84, 32 W. 92nd St.
Project Renewal (800-564-6868) is offering screenings Monday, June 7, at 12:30 p.m. at New Providence, 225 E. 45th St.; and Monday, June 21 at the Park Avenue Armory, 643 Park Ave.
