The Department of Education is holding a Community Education Council candidate forum on April 2 to educate parents who will get to cast an advisory vote for new members.
This is the first year in which parents with children in the public school system can cast an advisory vote for a CEC candidate. The winner of the straw poll will be taken into consideration by the Parent Teacher Association officials, who choose the new member.
“This year, we have worked to make sure we are giving parents with as much information about people applying and giving them a say for the first time about who gets chosen for CEC,” said Will Havemann, department spokesperson. “The meetings are a chance for parents to know who is running.”
The candidate forum for the West Side school district will be held on April 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 154 W. 93rd Street between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues.
