in an effort to teach schoolchildren about the maple industry, representatives from the new york state maple producers association recently brought a mobile maple exhibit to 2nd to 5th graders from p.s. 111 and p.s. 191. students learned about maple tree tapping and syrup production, as well as the history of maple farming in new york, and, of course, sampled maple products. assembly member linda rosenthal (left) and state sen. tom duane (right) helped coordinate the april 8 event, which also included the state's "maple queen," katie peck (second from right) and "maple princess," chelsea green (second from left). the maple monarchs are involved with the future farmers of america program through their verona, n.y. high school.
