Several readers commented online on our story "How Safe is Christopher Street?" by Joanna Fantozzi, September 12, about residents' concerns of violence in the West Village neighborhood:

"Thanks for your excellent story on our situation down here! I'm only sorry that the sixth precinct has chosen to ignore your reporters' queries, the same way they have belittled and overlooked our concerns for years now." - Jessica Berk

"There is an issue of violence on Christopher Street and all over New York. However there cannot be blame on just young people. Violence comes from all types of people; young people, adults, straight, gay, etc. Believe it or not, it even comes from the NYPD. We have seen over the past year how much attention stop and frisk has been getting and that's because young people and especially people of color have been targeted. I hope that can be solutions to violence that doesn't result in increased police presence because for many that is not the answer." - John
