Kelly Wins High Praise

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, a possible 2008 candidate for mayor, is the recipient of some very high praise from the very opinionated political correspondent Rafael Martínez Alequín , who has declared him possibly the best to ever hold his position, especially in the wake of the Sean Bell shooting. Quote:

"Some of those were in Harlem. Kelly, known for his class and consideration has been very instrumental in easing racial tension due to police shootings. He was one of the first to declare an unjustifiable shooting in at least three instances. This particular opinion has been rare amongst previous commissioners. But, one can say that he has the ‘cojones’ to call the shots as he sees them. Amidst criticism of the likes of Charles Baron, et al, Kelly remains the calm in the eye of the storm," writes Martinez.

Martinez even takes a few shots at Brooklyn firebrand City Councilman Charles Barron. Read the whole piece [here].
