Jets Grounded by Patriots

Gang Green probably feels like Gang Black & Blue after [yesterday’s beating]. The New York Jets got pounded at home by the New England Patriots 38-14 to begin the season, quickly quashing any talk about the J-E-T-S, Jets! Jets! Jets! usurping the AFC East crown from their vaunted rivals.

More embarrassing than New York’s performance, however, were the fans at the Meadowlands, who cheered as Jets quarterback Chad Pennington [hobbled off the field] after suffering a leg injury, and then cheered even louder for his backup Kellen Clemens. It was complete ignorance of course, considering Pennington completed 16-of-21 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns, both to Laveranues Coles.

Instead of focusing their energies of Pennington, the crowd should have booed the Jets’ secondary, which was shredded by Tom Brady and his new toys. Brady threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns, while Randy Moss hauled in nine catches for 183 yards. After the game, New York head coach Eric Mangini (pictured) could have used another man-hug from his mentor Bill Belichick considering the flogging Mangini’s team just endured, but instead only got a lousy handshake.
