There’s little doubt that several [Long Island Republican policiticians] meant well when they mailed out a postcard urging constituents to call a toll-free number to be notified when convicted [sex offenders move into their neighborhoods](http://wcbstv.com/politics/local_story_108064518.html). But in a textbook case of irony, the 1-800 number they disseminated connects callers to a sex chat line. Here’s what people’s mail said, “Nassau County Legislator Peter J. Schmitt wants you to be protected from sexual predators,” and here’s what they heard when they followed directions, “[Hey there sexy guy](http://www.wnbc.com/news/12400293/detail.html?rss=ny&psp=news), welcome to an exciting new way to go live, one on one, with hot horny girls waiting right now to talk to you.” Republican spokesman Ed Ward admitted, “Apparently there was an error in the phone number.” Ya think?
