Islamo-Fascists Hate Us

Taking a page from the Karl Rove whisper-campaign playbook, rightwing writer, pundit and activist David Horowitz announced last week the creation of an “[Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week].” The college-campus weeklong event will take place from Oct. 22 to 26.

In an [interview ]with The American Spectator, one of Horowitz’s own publications, the conservative writer says that he will “hold [demonstrations and protests](http://media1.terrorismawareness.org/files/Islamo-Fascmism-Awareness-Week-Guide.html), teach-ins and sit-ins on more than 100 college campuses.”

“Our theme will be the Oppression of Women in Islam and the threat posed by the Islamic crusade against the West,” he said to interviewer Jamie Glazov. Horowitz, along with the likes of [Rick Santorum], has helped coin the term Islamo-Fascism, a term whose usage is [controversial](http://www.alternet.org/waroniraq/40850/) in and of itself.

On the event’s website, Horowitz writes:   "The purpose of this protest is as simple as it is crucial: to confront the two Big Lies of the political left: that George Bush created the war on terror and that Global Warming is a greater danger to Americans than the terrorist threat. Nothing could be more politically incorrect than to point this out. But nothing could be more important for American students to hear. In the face of the greatest danger Americans have ever confronted, the academic left has mobilized to create sympathy for the enemy and to fight anyone who rallies Americans to defend themselves. According to the academic left, anyone who links Islamic radicalism to the war on terror is an 'Islamophobe.' According to the academic left, the Islamo-fascists hate us not because we are tolerant and free, but because we are 'oppressors.' Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week is a national effort to oppose these lies and to rally American students to defend their country."   Although the events are set to take place on [college campuses], no schools have explicitly signed on to the events. Members of the Muslim Student Association are furious over the planned event, calling its organization “[hateful](http://www.israpundit.com/2006/?p=5624).”
