    Citing the caught-on-tape mugging of [Rose Morat], New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says street cameras help solve crimes. The NYPD has installed [122 of the 505 cameras](http://wcbstv.com/topstories/local_story_080104656.html) planned for public areas around the city. Didn’t anyone point out that the aforementioned case involved a building security camera? IE not in a public place?  CBS News reports that the [New York Civil Liberties Union](http://www.nyclu.org/) wants the city to notify neighborhood residents where cameras will be installed, and also set rules on how images will be retained and distributed.
