International Composition Contest
Named after famed jazz trumpeter and American Society of Composers (ASCAP) member Doc Severinsen, this contest recognizes new works that are a fusion of jazz and classical music, and feature a trumpet as a soloist with a large ensemble (either wind ensemble or orchestra). The only request from Severinsen: “It should have a melody and include a dialog between the soloist and ensemble.” The $10,000 first prize will be given on Feb. 13 at the 2014 Joint Conference of the College Music Society in Tennessee.
