For the second year in a row, the alumni association of the High School of Art and Design on E. 56th Street is collecting toys to give to children affected by Superstorm Sandy in the Rockaways.

The association’s holiday party and toy drive on Dec. 17 drew alumni as well as students and Friends of Art & Design (FAD) – residents of the school’s neighborhood community.

Several alumni donated raffle prizes (a gift basket valued at $60, a custom frame up to 20” x 24” valued at $400, a custom-designed necklace and hand bag valued at $175 and $180 each). Raffle prizes and goodie bag items were also donated by the Society of Illustrators, Starbucks, Equinox fitness club, TD Bank and the Comic Strip Live.

In addition to the collection of toys at this event, a deserving sophomore of the school also was presented with a portfolio of art supplies valued at $250, in memory of Minna Gordon Debel.
