Hey Teacher, Leave Those Kids Alone!
A special-ed schoolteacher at PS 325 in Harlem was arrested Monday for allegedly [kissing her 11-year-old student] exactly five times between last Oct. 1 and March 14, officials said yesterday. Sonia Vargas, 44, is married with two grown sons (whom she apparently misses a little too much). She was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on charges of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a minor, and released on $15,000 bail. Her attorney, Donald Vogelman, said the accusations are completely unfounded and that shes innocent, innocent he tells us!
Then on Thursday, a Long Island junior high school teacher was arrested after he allegedly [taped a 15-year-old freshmans legs together]. Matthew Foster, 57, a gym teacher at Paul J. Gelinas Junior High School, was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and third degree assault, and has been placed on paid leave. Apparently, Foster grabbed the duct tape when the student showed up late, and then forced him to waddle from the boys locker room to gym class, at which point he fell and broke his arm, Suffolk police said.
