gov. david paterson announced that the state will give $60 million in grants for health information technology projects. state sen. tom duane, who chairs the senate's health committee, lauded the investment as a necessity in tough economic times. advancements in healthcare information technology, he said, will increase efficiency and improve patient care. "we want to make sure we stay at the forefront of providing health care, healthcare technology and bio-tech during this difficult time in the economy," duane said. through a competitive process, applicants must request the grants through the state department of health by june 15. this state investment bodes well for the numerous hospitals and healthcare providers in duane's district, which includes roosevelt hospital on west 59th street. "i say this because i'm proud of them but because it's objectively true, i have great healthcare facilities," duane said. "this investment will help them be competitive."
