Don’t recall his jutting jaw or snow white hair–the little he had was sparse; he was skinnier than I’d remember him and he smiled a lot–a youthful smile. What I do remember well is that Grove’s success was basically owed to Olympia Press (Paris, France) originals… writers that Maurice Girodias had discovered and cultivated (Burroughs, Beckett, Miller, et al.)  Barney never fully or graciously admitted this indebtedness. Maurice considered him a thief of the first water.
