Grades for Street Food

to the editor: re: "'f' for failing falafel?" (april 1): and what about the underlying flaws with the department of health's rating methodology, councilman garodnick? the standards by which the department grades street carts are completely arbitrary and oftentimes have nothing to with actual health violations. unfortunately, given the city's budget deficit, the role of many regulatory agencies has shifted from enforcement to revenue generation. such a mission will only serve to undermine small businesses. i agree that we need to make street vendor grades publicly available, but we also need to publicize the methodology for how those grades are determined.
