Getting Wet At McCarren Pool

A day after Sonic Youth graced Brooklyn’s summer hot spot, hometown heroes TV on the Radio put on a show of their own. With rain pouring down early in the afternoon, a brave legion of fans steadily flowed into the massive pool. Shielded by umbrellas, and even a tent, some chose to remain dry, while others absorbed the rain, dancing in puddle, diving down the slip’n’slide, and participating in a rain-soaked game of dodgeball. When Miles Benjamin opened the day, only a small crowd was present. Next, with the rain slowing down, Celebration stunned the crowd with a set that featured collaborations with members of TV on the Radio. By the time Williamsburg’s favorite local band took the stage, the rain had stopped, and the venue was filled with fans. Those who weren’t scared away by a little precipitation were treated to a fine performance, with the band digging up some old favorites and finishing the day with a perfect rendition of “Staring at the Sun.”

Next week promises to be just as good with Blonde Redhead, I’m From Barcelona, and The Coydogs all performing.
