If you think that Friedman has 'substance to [his] points', then you're part of Friedman's audience. In that case, you're certainly not part of Tabbi's, which consists mostly of those of us who have figured out that Friedman and his ilk have absolutely nothing to say . (Why pick on Friedman if there are lots of people out there with nothing to say? Because Friedman says it so *hilariously*.)

Shouldn't malapropisms sound alike? Level and flat certainly don't. Your launch and lunch example is correct but I think you misapplied the word to Friedman. Perhaps you both are victims of catachresis?

Matt Taibbi should make a career deconstructing pop songs. I could explain why I think this guy is just an angsty dick but I won't. Friedman might be terrible at making coherent analogies, but there is substance to the points. And can you boils it down to awe over all the neat shit IT and capitalism have done together? Sure. But it can be an eye opener to casual readers. It isn't going to show up in an economics class, but it can at water coolers and kitchen tables. The points are valid, and it is paradigm broadening to many people how read Friedman's books. Also, I like Friedman's bad analogies. Honestly Matt just sounds like a butthurt cynical asshole.
