Fight For Your Right To Bear Camera

Tonight at 6:30 p.m., in Union Square, there’ll be a First Amendment Rally dealing with, among other things, the recently proposed regulations that would require groups to obtain a permit and take out insurance in order to film or shoot still photos on city property—even sidewalks—as early as next month. All the usual protesting suspects will be there, including Reverend Billy, freshly sprung from the slammer, and Critical Mass, leaving Union Square at 7 p.m. for its monthly ride into the sunset. A relative newcomer will also make an appearance: Picture New York, a coalition of concerned filmmakers and photographers. In the meantime, watch Queen Juliana’s video on the subject; it’s nothing fancy, but it gets the point across.
